Artisan Profile: A nonprofit organization located in Panajachel, a town on Lake Atitlán, connects 120 indigenous artisans to international markets through Fair Trade programs. The foundation leverages traditional Maya heritage and art to rescue, preserve, and promote the ancestral culture of the highland artisans with a focus on backstrap weaving. The textiles are produced on traditional backstrap looms, a technique dating back to the Maya empire.
